My ex-wife is pregnant with the child we could not have
Dear Delyara, My ex-wife is pregnant. We divorced after seven years of infertility treatments, two miscarriages, and the slow collapse of everything we once talked about besides becoming parents. Her new husband announced the pregnancy online with a photograph of tiny shoes. I found out from my sister, who called because she did not want me to see it alone. I am happy for her. I am also furious that life gave us medical appointments, injections, grief, and blame, then gave her a child once our marriage was gone. She sent me a private message saying she hoped the news would not hurt me. I replied, “Congratulations. I’m genuinely pleased for you.” I do not know whether that was dignity or dishonesty. We once chose names together. I still know which one she wanted for a girl. If she uses it, I will have no right to feel robbed. The child is not mine, the marriage is over, and still some part of me believes a future we buried has begun growing inside another man’s life.
