My father sends money instead of speaking to me

Since then, he transfers money into my account every month. No message. No explanation. The amount is always the same. I return it; he sends it again. On my birthday, he sent twice as much. My mother says this is how he shows love. I do not want love to arrive like a bank transaction from someone who refuses to hear my voice. Still, when I was unemployed last winter, I used part of it for rent. That has made the silence feel purchased. Last week, I phoned and asked whether we could meet. He said, “Do you need more?” I said no. He sounded relieved and ended the call. The money arrived again this morning. I stare at the reference line, where he writes only my childhood nickname. My father will not say he misses me. He will fund my life from a distance and call that closeness.
