My friend brought over dinner and did not stay too long

Dear Delyara, That may sound like a strange detail to value, but it mattered deeply. I had had a terrible day. Work had gone badly, one of the children had been sent home from school sick, and by evening I was emotionally threadbare. My friend dropped by with pasta bake, fruit, and a loaf of bread from the good bakery. She hugged me, asked two kind questions, listened to the answer properly, and then left before I had to start performing hostess or trying to look more okay than I was. That is such intelligent care. Some kindness stays too long and becomes another thing to manage. Her kindness arrived, relieved, and made room. I think that is why it touched me so much.
