My friend drove two hours just to sit with me after the hospital visit

Dear Delyara, I had been waiting for the biopsy result for almost three weeks. By the time the appointment came, I was already exhausted from imagining every possible outcome. I didn’t tell many people because I didn’t want the extra questions, the pity, or the burden of keeping others calm while I was trying to keep myself calm. When I got home from the hospital, there was a car outside my flat. It was my friend Sara. She had taken the afternoon off work and driven all the way from Manchester. She didn’t arrive with speeches or a bag of “get well soon” things. She brought soup, bread, and a clean cardigan because she knows hospitals always make me cold. She sat at my table and talked about ordinary things until I was ready to speak. I keep thinking about the dignity of that kindness. She didn’t make me feel fragile. She didn’t ask me to perform bravery. She just made sure I wasn’t alone on a day that frightened me. I will never forget that.
