GratitudeFriendship
My friend helped me without making me talk
Dear Delyara, I had a bad day, the kind where even answering “How are you?” properly feels like too much work. I told her I was tired and low, and instead of calling, or asking a hundred questions, or making me explain everything, she just left food at the door and texted, “No need to reply. Eat first.” I think that is one of the kindest forms of support in adult life. Help that does not turn itself into another emotional task. I didn’t have to perform gratitude. I didn’t have to sound better than I felt. I just got to receive it. That felt like real friendship.
