My friend let me cancel without making me prove I was tired enough

Dear Delyara, I texted her and said I couldn’t do dinner because the week had got on top of me. No dramatic explanation, no illness, no emergency, just honest depletion. I braced for the usual polite disappointment people often hide inside “No worries.” Instead she wrote, “Of course. Rest properly. We’ll do it another time.” That was it. No guilt. No coolness. No subtle punishment for not being available on schedule. Just room. I think adult friendship is often measured by how safely you can disappoint each other without damaging the connection. This one passed the test beautifully.
