My friend sent me a photo of the sea because she knew I’d had no space all week

Dear Delyara, No long message. No demand. Just a photo of grey water and the words: “Thought you needed this.” She was right. I did. There was something so touching about being known in that small accurate way. Not “here’s advice,” not “cheer up,” not “let’s discuss your stress.” Just one image carrying enough room in it for me to breathe differently for a second. Some friendships do not save you dramatically. They just hand you back a little of your own nervous system on difficult days.
