My husband is still here, and I still feel abandoned in ways I can’t explain well

Dear Delyara, That sentence sounds unfair. It is still true. He works. He comes home. He talks. He helps in the ways he understands as help. He is not cruel. He is not absent in any obvious sense. And yet there are evenings where I feel so emotionally alone beside him that I start questioning my own right to use the word lonely at all. We speak about logistics beautifully. The children, the shopping, the bills, appointments, times, practicalities. We can run a household together like a small tired company. What we don’t do enough anymore is reach. There is a kind of abandonment that happens not through leaving but through slowly no longer arriving emotionally where it matters. That is what I am living with. It hurts because it has no single dramatic event to point at. It is daily. That makes it harder to defend and harder to ignore.
