My husband thinks our savings are intact
Dear Delyara, I lost almost £18,000 of our savings trying to keep my small online business alive. At first, I used only the amount my husband agreed to. Then sales dropped. I transferred more, telling myself the next campaign would recover it. It did not. The account now holds less than £4,000. My husband thinks we have enough for the deposit on the flat we planned to buy next year. Tonight, he showed me a property listing and said, “We’re nearly there.” I smiled. I have not slept properly in weeks. The business is closing anyway. Nothing remains to justify what I did. I keep imagining the conversation: his face when he logs into the account, the moment he realizes I allowed him to make plans with money that had already disappeared. I did not gamble it or spend it on luxury. Somehow, that does not make the betrayal cleaner. I turned shared security into private hope and kept spending after hope became denial.
