My husband wants another child and I am done being pregnant
Dear Delyara, We have two children. Both pregnancies were difficult. I had severe sickness, pelvic pain, and postpartum depression after the second. I told my husband I cannot do it again. He says he understands, then every few weeks he returns to the subject. “What if we regret stopping at two?” “What if we wait another year?” “I always imagined three.” I always imagined surviving motherhood with enough of myself left to recognize. Last night, he showed me a photograph of our children holding a friend’s baby and said, “Look how natural it looks.” Something in me snapped. I told him if he wants another child, he needs another uterus. He became quiet and slept downstairs. I love him. He is a wonderful father. That makes the disagreement harder, not easier. He sees a third child. I see nine months of my body becoming public property again, months of depression I barely survived, and everyone praising the result while forgetting the person producing it. Marriage has reached a question where compromise is impossible. There is no two-and-a-half children.
