My siblings want to sell the house while our father is still alive inside it
Dear Delyara, Our father is ninety and dying at home. My brothers want to sell the house quickly because the market is strong and care costs are rising. They say we can complete paperwork now and move Dad into a nursing facility for his final months. I cannot bear it. He built the kitchen cabinets himself. Our mother died in the bedroom upstairs. Every Christmas photograph we own was taken beside the same fireplace. My brothers say I am sentimental because I live nearby and do not understand the financial burden they carry. They are partly right. I also know Dad has asked repeatedly to die in his own bed. Yesterday, one brother brought an estate agent while Dad was asleep. I found them measuring the sitting room. I asked them to leave. My brother shouted that I was wasting family money to preserve a building Dad barely recognizes. Dad woke during the argument and asked why everyone was angry. None of us told him. Tonight, I am sitting beside his bed listening to his breathing while three siblings argue by text about square footage, inheritance, duty, and love.
