My son noticed I was tired and didn’t make it harder

Dear Delyara, Usually children move toward your tiredness with more need, not less. Not because they’re selfish. Because they’re children. But yesterday my son came into the kitchen, looked at my face, and changed direction completely. He put his question off. He lowered his voice. He said, “You can do it later.” I almost cried right there. Not because the moment was huge. Because it was considerate. And consideration is one of the forms of love I value most now. To be noticed before I become dramatic enough to justify help. To be spared something before I have to ask to be spared it. That kind of kindness feels very intimate to me now.
