My son noticed I was tired and lowered his voice without being asked

Dear Delyara, He didn’t make a speech or ask if I was okay in some huge worried way. He just saw my face, adjusted himself, and came into the room more softly. That kind of thoughtfulness from a child you have spent years trying to raise kindly can feel almost painful in the best way. It reminded me that care does come back. Not always, not perfectly, not enough to erase the tiredness of giving it, but still. It returns in gestures sometimes before it returns in language. That mattered more to me than he knows.
