The WeightPast Wounds

Old pain still chooses my first tone before I do

Dear Delyara, I notice it most in the beginning of things. How I soften too fast. How I prepare the other person before they’ve reacted. How I make room around my own truth so it enters more gently, less dangerously, less likely to create friction. That is not always “personality.” Sometimes it is memory arriving first. I think old wounds keep living not only in what hurts us, but in how quickly they pre-edit our presence in new moments. That realization has made me feel sad in a very precise way. Because it means some of my first responses are not truly free yet. They are still carrying earlier consequences.
