Old pain still edits what I offer before anyone responds

Dear Delyara, I don’t always wait for the room to tell me it’s unsafe. Sometimes I pre-edit before the room has done anything at all. Softer language. Smaller truth. Less directness. Quicker apology. More explanation. That’s how I know certain wounds are still active. They don’t only appear when I’m triggered. They appear in the very first draft of what I allow myself to be. That realization has made me gentler and sadder at once. Because it means some of what I’ve called personality has really been memory in motion. And memory is not the same thing as freedom.
