Reclaiming the Name
Dear Delyara, They took my name and turned it into a curse. They used it to call me things I never was. For a long time, I hated the sound of it. But tonight, at this wooden desk, I wrote my name at the top of the page in the most beautiful script I could manage. I wrote about the person I was before the trauma, and the warrior I became because of it. I am taking my name back. I am defining myself on my own terms. This letter is my flag, planted firmly in the ground of my own life. I am here. I am whole. I am mine.
