She announced my pregnancy before I was ready
Dear Delyara, After three miscarriages, I became pregnant again and told only my closest friend. I asked her not to tell anyone until after the first scans. Two days later, she posted a photograph of us online with the caption, “The secret is finally out—Auntie can’t wait.” By the time I saw it, relatives and coworkers had already commented. She deleted the post and apologized, saying she was overwhelmed with happiness. I am nine weeks pregnant. Every cramp frightens me. Now people ask about due dates, names, and nursery plans while I am still checking for blood every time I use the bathroom. My friend says she understands why I am upset, but she also says I should not let fear steal joy. It was not her joy to release. The pregnancy may continue. I hope it does. What she took cannot be returned either way: the right to hold this fragile possibility privately until my body felt less like a place where futures disappear. She keeps sending apologies. I cannot answer because friendship is supposed to make secrets safer, not more exciting to reveal.
