She Brought Food, Left It Quietly, and Didn’t Turn Helping Me Into More Emotional Work for Me
Dear Delyara, She knew I was having a hard week. She also knew I was too tired to host comfort. Too tired to talk properly. Too tired to brighten my face and reassure another person that yes, really, I appreciated the help and no, really, I’m okay enough and yes, really, thank you so much. So she dropped the food at my door and texted: “No need to answer. Just eat.” I nearly cried reading that. Because that is what real care is to me now. Not care that creates another performance. Care that removes weight. I think a lot of people mean well and still don’t understand that help can become one more burden if it arrives wrapped in social obligation. This didn’t. This was light. And because it was light, it reached me fully.
