She helped me without making me talk
Dear Delyara, That meant so much more than a long conversation would have. I told my friend I’d had a hard day and was too tired to explain it properly. Instead of calling or trying to pull the whole story out of me, she left food at the door and texted, “No need to answer. Eat first.” That kind of care feels intelligent to me now. Not because talking is bad. Because some days being understood without having to perform your own distress properly is the deepest form of relief. I didn’t have to sound okay. I didn’t have to sound grateful enough. I just got to receive the kindness in the state I was already in. I wish more people understood how rare that feels.
