She Let Me Say the Worst Part Out Loud
Dear Delyara, I said it to her the way it actually felt, not the way I usually package it. I told her that some nights I resent everybody. That I sometimes want to get in the car and drive until the gas light comes on. That I feel like I am becoming practical instead of alive. That part of me still wants someone to notice without me having to ask. That I am ashamed of how often I need that. She didn’t rush to make me sound noble. She said, “Of course you feel that way.” And somehow that one sentence pulled shame out of my body like a splinter. I didn’t realize how desperate I was not to be improved. Just understood.
