She let me sound ugly and still stayed warm
Dear Delyara, I told her the truth in the unpolished form — that I felt lonely and ashamed and tired and not at all inspirational about what I was carrying. I expected, at some point, for her to hurry me back toward a more acceptable version of myself. A brighter one. A stronger one. A more easy-to-love one. She didn’t. She stayed warm while I sounded human. That meant everything. Because what I needed was not fixing. It was somewhere for the ugly truth to land without losing respect.
