Someone Let Me Go First in the Queue and I Nearly Cried
Dear Delyara, It was such a small kindness. One person, one gesture, one simple “You go ahead.” And still I felt that sudden emotional loosening that happens when a tired body receives help at exactly the point it was closest to having no spare room left for one more small delay. I don’t think the person knew what they were really doing. They were moving me one place forward in a line. My body received it as: today doesn’t have to fight you over every inch. That is what kindness can be when someone is already carrying too much. Not grand. Just one less resistance between them and the next manageable step. I got to the car and sat there with the feeling for a while. It had reached me that deeply.
