Stress Sits in My Jaw
Dear Delyara, That’s one of the places I find it first. Not in dramatic panic. In clenching. In the way my face feels tight by afternoon. In the headache that starts behind the eyes after too many small demands. In the fact that my whole body seems to expect the next interruption before the current one is even over. Stress is not an event in me anymore. It’s climate. I still do the day. That’s what makes it easy for other people to miss. But my body doesn’t miss it. My jaw doesn’t miss it. My sleep doesn’t miss it. The small sharpness in my tone by evening definitely doesn’t miss it. I am worried about how normal this has started to feel.
