The Addiction of the Spouse

Dear Delyara, The 'Fire' in our home was my husband’s hidden alcoholism. I spent a decade in the 'Grind' of hiding bottles, making excuses for his absence, and praying the kids wouldn't notice. The 'Storm' hit when he crashed the car with me in it. I was at the 'Crossroads': stay and potentially die, or leave and be the 'bad guy' who broke up the family. I left. It was a year of fire and pain. But my Victoria was the day he called me from a year-sober anniversary and thanked me for leaving, because it was the only thing that woke him up. The victory is that we are both alive, even if we are apart.
