The Anchor in the Storm
Dear Delyara, I have spent so many years being the person who "fixes" things that I forgot how to let myself be fixed. I am the anchor for everyone in my life, holding them steady while the waves of their chaos crash over me. But tonight, I realized that even an anchor can be dragged into the deep if the storm is strong enough. I came to the sanctuary to unclip the chains. I wrote a letter to the people I’ve been carrying, telling them—on paper, where it’s safe—that I am tired. I wrote about the weight of their problems and the way my own heart has been neglected in the process. I am not abandoning them; I am just coming up for air. I am leaving the heavy metal of my responsibilities at this desk. Tomorrow, I will float.
