The clean reflection in the dark glass

Dear Delyara, I stood in front of the bathroom mirror tonight, and for the first time in years, I didn't want to look away. I remember the mornings when my eyes were bloodshot, my hands were shaking so violently I couldn't hold a glass of water, and my soul was completely drowned in the toxic numbness of addiction. Tonight, I looked at a man with clear eyes, steady hands, and a calm, quiet dignity in his posture. I have been completely clean for three years today. I didn't just stop drinking; I crawled out of a grave I dug with my own hands and rebuilt a human being from the wreckage. I sat on the edge of the tub and wept tears of pure, unadulterated gratitude, just thanking the universe for giving me my life back.
