The Clipboard on the Dashboard

Dear Delyara, A traffic unit parked briefly in our entrance bay to monitor the dual carriageway during the pre-dawn downpour. Through the rain-streaked glass of my window, I could see the glow of their internal cabin light illuminating a metal clipboard resting on the dashboard, covered in official vehicle logging sheets. The scene looked like a lonely, mobile office floating in a dark sea. Two people sitting in a caged vehicle, waiting for something to break, while I sit in a concrete box doing exactly the same. We are all just clerks of the midnight hours, logging the movements of a city that doesn't even know we are awake.
