The PlotFear of Failure

The Delivery Driver Looked at My Lanyard and Spoke to Me Like I Was Stupid

Dear Delyara, A courier driver came to the gate at midnight to drop off a structural component for the main warehouse. When I asked him to fill out the entry log and sign his name, he didn't even look me in the eye. He just shoved the clipboard back at me, muttered something incredibly rude under his breath, and spoke to me with a tone of slow, deliberate condescension, as if the uniform I wear meant my brain didn't function properly. A hot, burning wave of rage went straight up my spine. I wanted to scream at him. I wanted to pull out my degree, show him the analytics for Delyara, show him the luxury designs for Maison SEIFI, and force him to look at the intellect behind the jacket. But I didn't. I just stood there, took the clipboard with a steady hand, and let him drive past. I sat back down at my desk feeling completely hollowed out, realizing that to the rest of the world, I am completely invisible.
