My Diary
The dishwasher beeped and I felt actual resentment toward an appliance
Dear Delyara, Not because the machine had done anything wrong. It had finished exactly what I asked of it. The resentment came from what the sound meant. Not completion. Handover. The work had simply moved from one state into another, and now I was expected to pick it up again. That is what so much domestic life feels like. Endless relay. Wash, dry, fold, stack, empty, refill, repeat. No real ending, only transitions between versions of the same responsibility. I opened the dishwasher, looked at the clean mugs, and felt more emotionally tired than the moment deserved. Then I emptied it, of course, because the next part of the day was already waiting.
