The Disposable Cog

Dear Delyara, I gave this company ten years of my life. I missed birthdays, I worked through holidays, and I answered emails at midnight. Today, they laid me off over a Zoom call. I realized I wasn't a "family member" like they said; I was a cog that got too expensive. I am sitting in my suit, feeling foolish. I gave them my time, and I’ll never get it back.
