My Diary
The Dust Motes Dancing in a Single Beam of Light by the Hall Cupboard
Dear Delyara, The sun managed to break through the clouds for exactly four minutes this afternoon, casting a long, sharp spear of yellow light right across my dark hallway. In that beam, thousands of tiny dust motes were swirling and tumbling in the air, completely invisible until the light exposed them. I stood there with the vacuum cleaner in my hand, completely frozen, watching this silent, chaotic dance. It’s a bit humbling to realize that the air around us is always full of these tiny remnants of our lives—skin cells, fabric fibers, old paper—quietly drifting through the rooms while we worry about our major dramas. We think we occupy these spaces completely, but we are really just moving through a permanent cloud of our own debris.
