My Diary
The Echo of an Empty Lift Shaft
Dear Delyara, The elevator in the office building went down for maintenance tonight, leaving the central core of the structure entirely hollow and dead. When I walked past the heavy metal doors on my patrol, I could hear the cables groaning deep in the basement, a low, mechanical throat clearing that vibrated straight through the concrete floor under my boots. Without the usual hum of people moving between floors, the building feels like a massive, sleeping animal that has forgotten how to breathe. I stood there for a long time, watching the yellow maintenance light blink in the dark corridor, feeling less like an employee and more like a ghost watching over a giant tomb of filing cabinets.
