The Empty Inbox at Two AM
Dear Delyara, The clock reads 2:30 AM, and I am sitting here repeatedly refreshing the inbox on my personal phone, hoping to see a message from anyone outside of work. There is nothing but automated marketing alerts and automated system reports. The brutal reality of maintaining a permanent 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM shift pattern is that your social existence is completely erased over time. You become a phantom living in the margins of a city that moves on a completely different clock. My friends have stopped inviting me to events because they already know I’ll be on duty, and my family has grown accustomed to my long silelines. This profound, structural isolation doesn't just make you sad; it alters your mind, making you feel entirely disconnected from the rest of the human race.
