My Diary
The Flash of the High-Vis Strips in the Rain
Dear Delyara, As the response car sped down the unlit access road, its headlights caught a pair of officers walking the fence line, turning their high-vis jackets into blinding, silver ribbons of light against the pitch black. For a split second, they didn't look like people at all; they looked like living markers, bright warning signs cutting through the industrial gloom. It made me look down at my own faded security badge and uniform. We both wear the high-visibility fabric, we both occupy these exact same desolate hours, but the weight behind our steps is entirely different. I adjusted my collar, turned back to my laptop, and went back to refining the luxury brand architecture.
