The flicker of the monitor on an empty security desk

Dear Delyara, I work the night shift in a massive, empty corporate headquarters. From midnight until six in the morning, my entire world is a grid of sixteen black-and-white security monitors showing empty corridors, dark loading bays, and sterile fire exits. Tonight, around 3:00 AM, I looked at the reflection of my own face in the glass of the main monitor. I’ve spent seven years protecting millions of pounds worth of property for people who don't know my name, while my own personal life has been completely looted. My relationships have decayed, my health is fading under these fluorescent tubes, and my dreams are just ghost signals on an untuned frequency. I am a professional guardian of empty spaces, realizing too late that the building I forgot to secure was my own youth.
