The Forgotten Plant on the Sill
Dear Delyara, The small ivy plant on my kitchen windowsill died three weeks ago, its leaves turning into brittle, brown paper that drops onto the tiles every time the back door closes. I haven't thrown it out yet. Every morning I look at it while making tea, and it feels like a physical accusation of my inability to care for things. It required so little—just a cup of water every few days—and I couldn't even manage that. It sits there like a tiny, domestic monument to my own emotional neglect.
