The Friction of a Half-Hearted Conversation

Dear Delyara, I can still taste the bitter residue of the argument from earlier this evening, hanging in the back of my throat like stale smoke. It’s 1:15 AM now, and the house has finally settled into that thick, heavy silence that only comes after doors are shut a little too hard. I am sitting in the dark of the living room, watching the green indicator light on the router blink rhythmically against the far wall. The worst part of growing distant from someone isn't the shouting; it’s the exhausting friction of trying to force a connection that used to flow like water. We spent two hours talking past each other, using words like weapons, both of us too proud to admit we are just terrified of losing our grip. Writing this down is my only outlet tonight, an admission to the dark that I am tired of fighting, tired of defending myself, and deeply afraid that the distance we are creating might become permanent.
