My Diary

The Fridge Door Stayed Open While I Tried to Remember Why I Was There

Dear Delyara, This evening I opened the fridge and then just stood there. The light was on, the cold air was coming out, and I was staring at yoghurt, carrots, leftover rice, one lemon, half a cucumber, and a bowl of grapes as if one of them might tell me what I had come for. After a few seconds, I remembered. Butter. I needed butter. But the thing that stayed with me was not the forgetting. It was the emptiness in between. That small blank moment felt like proof of how crowded my mind has become. Too many unfinished thoughts. Too many practical things moving at once. Too many people’s needs walking around in my head beside my own quieter ones. I closed the fridge with the butter in my hand and felt strangely emotional. Because I knew it wasn’t about memory alone. It was about overload. And overload, when it lasts long enough, starts showing itself in the smallest, most ordinary places.
