The Goal Mattered, But So Did the Person I Became

Dear Delyara, I’m proud that I reached the goal. But I’m more moved by what I had to become in order to hold it properly. Less naive. More disciplined. Less hungry for applause. More respectful of the process. Better able to carry success without turning it into my whole self-worth. I think some goals arrive only after they’ve changed the person who wanted them. That feels true for me now.
