The Grocery Store Panic
Dear Delyara, I stood at the register today and prayed the card wouldn't decline. My heart was thumping against my ribs over a bag of pasta and some milk. The shame of being forty years old and not knowing if I can afford dinner is a shadow that follows me every day. I am working so hard, and yet the water is still rising above my chin.
