The PlotCareer
The Imposter’s Desk
Dear Delyara, I got the promotion. I should be celebrating. Instead, I spent the afternoon staring at my new office door, waiting for someone to walk in and tell me there’s been a mistake. I feel like an actor who has walked onto the wrong stage and forgotten all the lines. Every time my boss tells me I’m doing a "great job," I feel a flash of panic. I’m convinced that I’m just better at hiding my incompetence than everyone else. The higher I climb, the more people there are to watch me fall, and I can’t stop looking down. I’m exhausted from the effort of pretending I know what I’m doing.
