The Lie I Told the Kids

Dear Delyara, I told them we are moving because "Mom and Dad want different things." It’s a clean, polite lie. The truth is too jagged for their little hearts—that we stopped being kind, that we forgot how to look at each other without resentment. I hope they never have to understand the truth. I hope they just know that the love for them never moved, even if the furniture did.
