The Loose Slat on the West Fence

Dear Delyara, The clock reads 2:40 AM, and the wind coming off the canal has loosened a heavy timber slat on the western perimeter barrier. Every gust makes it slam against the concrete support post with a dull, hollow thud that sounds exactly like a heavy fist knocking on a wooden door. On my last patrol circuit, I stood there in the dark for five minutes, watching the wood splinter slightly with every impact under the orange glare of the security lights. It’s a strange thing to spend your night hours monitoring minor structural decay while your mind is completely occupied with calculating premium scarcity metrics and global brand positioning. I pushed a loose piece of gravel under the slat to wedge it quiet and kept walking, refusing to let the rhythm of the yard break my focus.
