The Missing Button on the Blue Shirt

Dear Delyara, I went to button my favorite blue shirt this morning and realized the third fastener down had completely vanished, leaving only a few frayed loops of white thread dangling from the seam. I must have lost it in the washing machine weeks ago without noticing. The shirt sits entirely wrong now, gaping open at the chest in a way that feels completely exposed and untidy. I spent ten minutes searching through an old biscuit tin full of mismatched buttons, but none of them matched the shape or the color. I ended up putting it back on the hanger, feeling a strange, hollow frustration that a tiny circle of plastic could make an entire garment useless to me.
