My Diary

The morning started badly and I spent hours trying not to let it ruin the rest

Dear Delyara, One child woke up late. My husband couldn’t find his keys. I spilled tea on the counter. The dog came back in with muddy paws. Then my son remembered he needed something printed “for today, Mum” exactly three minutes before we needed to leave. By 8:15 a.m. I could feel the whole day threatening to tilt. That’s the part people don’t see. Sometimes the real labour is not the mess itself. It is the emotional recovery after the mess. The effort of refusing to let one ugly morning become the tone of your face for the next ten hours. The work of smoothing your own nervous system so you do not speak too sharply to the people you love just because the toaster and the printer and the clock all collaborated against you before breakfast. I did recover, mostly. But not without effort. And that effort deserves more respect than it gets.
