The open window on a bright morning

Dear Delyara, For over a year, Agoraphobia turned my small apartment into a high-security prison. Just touching the brass doorknob would trigger a wave of nauseating panic so violent my knees would buckle and my throat would close as if I were underwater. I missed birthdays, doctor appointments, family dinners—everything. But I kept working with my therapist, taking one tiny step onto the porch every day, counting five deep breaths before stepping back inside. Today, I walked four blocks down to the corner bakery, bought a sourdough loaf from the girl behind the counter, sat on a bench outside, and ate a slice while watching the city buses go by. My heart was calm, my breathing was smooth, and the outside world didn't feel terrifying anymore—it just felt beautiful.
