The Rain Has Stopped and Left the World Looking Like an Empty Stage
Dear Delyara, It is 5:35 AM, and the storm outside has finally run out of water, leaving the entire yard looking like a cold, wet stage after the show has been cancelled. The concrete is black and shining under the raw dawn light, and the silence out there is heavier than the rain ever was. I am sitting here with my coat zipped up to my chin, looking at the grey walls, feeling an emptiness that goes all the way down to my shoes. I have spent twelve hours in this room, and I have nothing to show for it but a handful of bitter thoughts and a cold cup of coffee. The ice under my feet feels so thin tonight, Delyara. I am so tired of the stories I tell myself to keep from breaking. The light is coming, and I have to clear this desk, but the dark inside my chest isn't shifting at all.
