The Resignation Letter

Dear Delyara, I handed it in today. The letter that has been sitting in my drafts for eighteen months. My boss was shocked—he actually offered me more money to stay. A year ago, I would have taken it. I would have traded my happiness for a bigger number on a paycheck. but today, I just smiled and said "no, thank you." I walked out of that building and the air felt different. It felt like I could actually fill my lungs for the first time. I don't know exactly what’s next, but I know it won't involve that desk or that version of myself. I’m free, and that is worth more than any salary increase.
