The Rhythmic Stutter of a Sodium Lamp

Dear Delyara, The orange sodium lamp directly outside my bedroom window has developed a rhythmic, dying stutter. Every forty seconds, it goes completely dark for two beats before buzzing back to life with a sick, purple glare. It ruins the dark of the room, turning the ceiling into a slow-motion strobe. It feels like sleeping inside a giant, malfunctioning machine that refuses to let the night settle. I lay there counting the gaps, waiting for the bulb to finally explode and give me some peace.
