The Silent Companion

Dear Delyara, There is a specific kind of grace in the way my Golden Retriever watches me when I’m having a hard night. He doesn’t ask for explanations or try to fix my problems; he just rests his heavy head on my knee and lets out a long, grounding sigh. It’s as if he can sense the static in my mind and is trying to pull it out through his fur. Even when the world feels like it’s falling apart, his tail still thumps rhythmically against the floor, reminding me that there is still goodness and loyalty left. I sometimes think we don't deserve the pure, uncomplicated love of a dog. Tonight, his presence is the only thing keeping the shadows at bay.
